About us Tucked along 99 High Street in Stevenage, Spice Rouge brings together rich tradition, bold flavors, and a cozy vibe that speaks to lovers of Indian cuisine. This isn't your average curry house-it’s where spice meets sophistication in every dish. From the moment you walk through the doors, there's an inviting charm that hints you’re in for a delicious evening.
Let’s start with what hits your plate-because, at Spice Rouge, the food doesn’t whisper; it sings. The Chicken Shashlik comes out sizzling, beautifully marinated and grilled to perfection, with a smoky edge that pairs beautifully with the restaurant’s signature Spicy Garlic Mushrooms. These mushrooms are little bites of fire-kissed umami, a crowd-pleasing starter that sets the tone for what’s to come.
If you're vegetarian, you're in good hands. The Sag Paneer and Chana Masala are standout dishes-hearty, flavorful, and layered with fragrant spices that feel comforting yet exciting. Their Mushroom Rice works as more than just a side; it's an aromatic, savory rice dish that holds its own.
Now, if you’re looking for a proper feast, don’t skip the Mixed Starter-a medley of popular bites like King Prawn Butterfly, Somosa, and possibly even Pulled Pork, offering a bit of a fusion flair. The Lamb ‘E’ Doula-though less common-is worth noting for its deep, slow-cooked richness and balanced spice. It’s one of those dishes that makes you want to ask the chef what magic went into the pot.
As for mains, the Chicken Jalfrezi brings a perfect balance of heat and tang, and if you’re into seafood, the Tandoori King Prawns are both juicy and full of that classic tandoor char. Pair it all with a soft Paratha and Special Rice, and you’ve got a meal that doesn’t just satisfy-it impresses.
Thirsty? The drink menu includes a good selection of beer, wine, and spirits, which adds to the relaxed dining experience. Whether you're sipping on a cold lager or a glass of red, there’s something that goes hand in hand with your meal. And yes, they do serve coffee, too-for those who like to finish off dinner with something warm and bold.
The restaurant offers dine-in, takeaway, and delivery options, making it flexible for any kind of plan-whether you’re grabbing a solo dinner after work or ordering in for a cozy night at home. While it doesn't have a wheelchair-accessible entrance, it does offer a comfortable setting for those able to access the venue.
What adds to Spice Rouge’s charm is its reputation as a dinner hotspot in Stevenage. It’s particularly popular with solo diners-those who come for the food, the quiet atmosphere, and the reliably good service. There’s no flashy gimmick here, just well-executed dishes and a vibe that keeps locals and regulars coming back.
The late-night offerings are a bonus. If you’re the kind who craves curry after hours, you’ll appreciate that this spot stays open to serve halal, vegetarian, and classic Indian dishes even when the town starts to wind down.
Spice Rouge doesn’t try to be trendy or reinvent the wheel. Instead, it focuses on doing what it does best-serving deeply flavorful, authentic meals that bring warmth to the table. It’s that dependable kind of place where you can explore new dishes or stick to old favorites, always knowing you’ll walk away full and satisfied.

“Booked in for a Saturday Evening, arrived slightly early and was sat down straight away. Very quick service, pint of Cobra was disappointing, flat and just not very nice. Food was decent, as expected, good sized portions and very flavourful overall. Was very stuffy inside the restaurant itself, I think this put me off finishing all my food if I’m honest, no air flow at all.”
“The food was very nice, and they did the biggest onion bhaji I've ever seen. The staff didn't seem very friendly though, and it felt like I'd annoyed them just by being there.”
“I ate here recently. The service is excellent, polite and attentive when you need it without being intrusive. The chefs speciality Railway curry is one of tastiest curry's I've ever had. My friend a salmon curry and the fish was a bit more 'fishy' tasting salmon should be. Overall all though a great experience.”
“Just had a meal here the atmosphere was lovely the food was very nice I had railway chicken the chicken was very soft and tender my partner has madras he said the same about the chicken the service was excellent we will definitely return again soon.”
